OUR STORY
Clapps Chapel began as a Methodist congregation in 1842. They were lay led from the beginning, with pastoral oversight from traveling or visiting circuit riding clergy or bishops. In the early 1900’s they build a larger church to hold a growing congregation. Still led by the laity, with the primary focus on Christian education. There was also a move to educate women during this time as families grew, and the need for a strong female spiritual presence shared their outreach. By the 1950’s they became a station church, with their own full-time pastor. They continued to grow with the community, and in 1964 they built their current sanctuary. In 2022, after a lengthily discernment process, the congregation joined a new expression of Methodism - the Global Methodist Church. They have faithfully served the community through a Wesleyan approach of grace and outreach. Today, they are an outpost for historical worship patterns of liturgy, prayer and singing for the modern family.

Shaped by the rich heritage of Methodist faith and fellowship, we dream of a church where families are strengthened, children flourish, and Christ is at the center of every home. Through worship, teaching, fellowship, and service, we partner with families to raise up the next generation in the way of Christ.

We are a congregation committed to growing in our understanding of God’s Word so that we may be formed by truth, shaped by grace, and equipped for faithful living. Grounded in the Wesleyan tradition of Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience, we seek to study, teach, and live the Bible in community—so that God’s Word may take root in our hearts and bear fruit in our lives.
